So Battle Cabbage is a weird name for a blog. And some people might wonder where it came from. Honestly, if you’re reading this blog, then you know who I am and you probably know the whole story behind Battle Cabbage. But this post isn’t for you, it’s for the thousands of readers who will discover this blog-if I ever share the site with anyone.
I have some good friends who are part of a worship band. We go a long way back, and they have played at a number of my events, and are the “house band” for a student leadership camp I help lead every summer. They are really, good, but this isn’t their main profession. They all have other jobs, because they apparently care about providing for their families.
A while back they started working on coming up with a name for their band, and had asked me to help them think of one (this was their first mistake). I couldn’t think of anything until I was sitting down to watch “Ace of Cakes” with my wife. We recorded it on our DVR, and always got the last few minutes of “Iron Chef: America”. Iron Chef always titles their show “Battle (Insert secret ingredient here)” and one night their secret ingredient was cabbage, so the show was entitled: “Battle Cabbage.”
It seemed like a great name for a band and I called my friend Andy up and told him about it. I knew Andy would be just as excited as I was about the name and I couldn’t wait to see how he would react.
It was instantly rejected.
Since then I have made it my personal mission to make sure that “9th Hour Witness” (their new LAME band name) will forever be known as “Battle Cabbage.” If it sounds like I’m being vindictive and petty…I probably am…but it’s been kind of fun!
Seriously though, I love the guys in 9th Hour Witness and they are a great group of guys who love the Lord and can seriously rock it out for Jesus! If you ever need a band for an event, just hit me up and I can put you in contact with them.
